Tamba-Sasayama is a town deeply connected to the world of Noh. Nearby, the historic Kasuga Shrine Noh Stage hosts regular performances twice a year, and the Machiya district near Mameya is home to a Noh Museum, preserving this rich cultural tradition through the centuries.<\/p>\n
For this special program, we invite Mr. Yoshiteru Ueda, a distinguished shite-kata performer of the Kanze School, to offer an intimate introduction to the world of Noh. Guests will have the rare opportunity to view authentic Noh masks and costumes up close, and to try simple Noh movements under his guidance.<\/p>\n
The experience takes place on a stage that was once a traditional reception room, now graced with a folding screen designed by Hiroshi Sugimoto. Here, guests may dress in precious historical costumes that have been carefully preserved since the period and take commemorative photographs. In the adjoining Meiji-era kura (storehouse), an exhibition of costumes offers a unique way to explore the intertwined histories of Noh and architecture.<\/p>\n
The evening concludes with a mesmerizing Noh performance by Mr. Ueda, set against the illuminated stone garden\u2014a truly enchanting and unforgettable scene.<\/p>\n
